Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) in London, was raised by her mother, her grandmother, as well as her godparents. Her father was absent from her family. While she was a small girl, she was diagnosed with an obsessive compulsive disorder. She also experienced anxiety due to the word"association. Ford's love for acting grew as a child. Ford joined at the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School, but after just a few days, decided that she wasn't a good choice for this school. Ford then applied for a place in the Central School of Speech and Drama and received an acceptance on her fourth attempt. However, in 1991, Ford had made her first television appearance in an episode of Surgical Spirit. At that time, Ford adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate began her TV debut in 1991and appeared on television shows like The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. The regular theatre work she performed led her to join The Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 Season. Tate started to get noticed because of her stand-up comedic performances in 1996.
